My Fear of Becoming THAT Married Woman

It is human nature to boast about things we’re proud of. But wives have to remember humility is key. We were once like our single friends struggling with relationships. As great as our lives are now, things may not always be this way. Things can change drastically and we’ll need our dear friends’ support. I don’t want to piss them off to the point where they roll their eyes and hit the ignore button whenever I call. My plan is to remain humble. Hopefully, my marital status does not interfere with my friendships. I hope I continue to be a good friend. And I hope my friends think so too.

On My Playlist: How To Fix A Broken Record Podcast

To break the monotony of a day at the office, I often listen to Podcasts. I like podcasts that offer insight on a variety of topics, while still entertaining me in some way. Last week, I discovered How To Fix A Broken Record, a podcast based on a book of the same name. The podcast's… Continue reading On My Playlist: How To Fix A Broken Record Podcast

A Black Woman’s Conversation with a White Man About Race

This is where people get confused. Using race to describe a person is not offensive. Making an assumption about a person based on their skin color is offensive. Acknowledging that a lady is Black is not offensive, but classifying her as an angry black woman without getting to know her is offensive. I admire his audacity to pose an important question, at the risk of upsetting me.

Not Another One

The experience of going to the movie theaters will never be the same for me. Listening to a sermon at church will never be the same for me. Picking up toiletries at Walmart will never be the same for me. Attending a concert of my favorite musician will never be the same for me. I encourage you to play your role to reduce gun violence in this country, in whatever way you see fit.

My Life Changed Once I Started Doing These Things

I have undergone a transformation. I'm like a butterfly that emerged from a cocoon after experiencing some tough challenges. I'm better for it. I'm thankful for the hard times because I'm happy with the woman that it has made me. I'm also grateful for what the tough times forced me to do. Live within my… Continue reading My Life Changed Once I Started Doing These Things

The Power of a Good Story

I've always loved the art of storytelling. But, I never thought that story-telling could make the large impact on the world that I've always desired to make. Perhaps, this is the reason why I never took it as seriously as my career in healthcare. Because healthcare is more noble than storytelling, right? Wrong. As Viola… Continue reading The Power of a Good Story

The Doctor Orders For A Successful Career

Every morning when I was in elementary school, I would wake up and complete my routine: wake up, read Bible, pray, bathe, brush teeth, get dressed, and eat breakfast. After breakfast, however, I would make my way back to my bedroom and write my schedule for the day on my dry erase board. The board would look… Continue reading The Doctor Orders For A Successful Career

How I Got My Groove Back

Career-wise, the last 5 years of my life have been the most challenging years ever. I finished my graduate school studies during the Great Recession and attempted to land a job at government and not-for-profit organizations, which were badly affected by the economy's downturn. In July 2015, I took a leap of faith and drove 331 miles up to North Carolina to begin a new life. I couldn't be happier about the outcome.

On The Time Bullying Was A Good Thing

The radio can be a bully. How many times has a song played on the radio and you didn't like, so you flipped to the next station that was playing the same song? No matter what station you found yourself listening to, the song was always on the radio. It was as if the radio is trying to tell you, "I don't care what you do, but you are going to like this song. I am going to force you to like this song." This is precisely what happened between me and my local radio stations. But, a positive outcome occurred. I began to appreciate the words from the seemingly ubiquitous pop song, "Love Myself" by Hailee Steinfield. The song so closely reflects the message of this blog that I couldn't resist posting.

My First Boyfriend

I had my first "boyfriend" in kindergarten. I've place boyfriend in quotation marks here because I chuckle at how simple boyfriend/girlfriend relationships were in my childhood days. Feelings and commitment were foreign to me. My peers and I changed our boyfriends like we changes our socks. Boyfriends were only something we had in order to have something… Continue reading My First Boyfriend

Dating In Your 30’s Vs Dating In Your 20’s

You can always tell a woman's age by her attitude towards relationships. Women in their 20's are constantly second-guessing themselves; worrying about maintaining their crush's interest, and obsessing about how cute or athletic their beau is. Women in their 30's, on the other hand, are purposeful. They don't waste time; they have a five-year plan (which… Continue reading Dating In Your 30’s Vs Dating In Your 20’s

5 Things I Learned About Achieving Financial Prosperity

On my free time, I've been reading articles on financial management, stories about billionaires, and other miscellaneous articles on attaining wealth. The tips I've obtained from such sources have been so simple; you'd think that everyone should know this, but apparently, they don't. If they did, I suppose everyone would be wealthy. Here are some tips on obtaining financial wealth.
